Background: Born in Los Angeles in 1952, Mike was one of those rare people – it was his childhood ambition to become an accountant! His natural ability with numbers led to excellent grades and invitations to join all of the best colleges across America. Accepting the entry from Princeton, Mike found that he was, indeed, one of the best number-crunchers in the country. Graduating not only in the top 1% of his class, but top of it, Mike had the pick of the jobs. The best on offer was from the large technology corporation Mentex and so, in 1974, Mike started work, as a junior accountant, at the headquarters of Mentex in San Francisco. As time passed, Mike was promoted further and further up the chain until, one day, in 1990, Mike was promoted to Head of Acquisitions.
Due to this promotion, and after a security background check, Mike was informed as to the existence of Orion. Initially shocked, Mike’s reaction was to find out exactly what was required of him in the organisation. In 1998, Orion decided to set-up a regional office in San Francisco. The cover for the office was that of a shop (Spies ‘R’ Us). Due to the level of field-work experience of the regional office’s staff Mike was Orion’s first choice to head it up. Unfortunately, in late 1999, something went drastically wrong. One Saturday morning, Zak McClusky, the then Head of the Rapid Reaction Team, knocked on Mike’s house door. Upon opening the door, Mike was greeted with two shotgun blasts – one into each knee-cap. Hospitalised for some 8 weeks, Mike was eventually released, but he will never walk again. Subsequently, he has made it his life’s work to track down Zak and ensure that he is repaid for what he has done…
